Building

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Building Department is responsible for the public safety, health, and welfare for those who live, work, or visit our City. Our local partners in this endeavor include police, fire, public works, & the Bristol/Burlington Health District. Whether in a public or private buildings, we rely on the safety of the structures that surround us in our everyday lives. Education is an important component of our charge while enforcing the local & state building codes. In addition, the department  responds to emergency situations such as fires or damaged structures where the integrity of the building may have been compromised.

Essential duties of the Building Department inspectors include:

  • Permit review & approval  
  • Review of building & site plans
  • Conducting inspections
  • Issuing certificates of occupancy 
  • Code enforcement to address property maintenance issues

INSPECTIONS:

Inspections are scheduled Monday through Thursday. There are no Friday inspections. To set-up a inspection, call 860-584-6215. Inspections are scheduled in the following time slots.

• 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
• 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

BUILDING PERMITS:

All PERMIT applications are on-line. If you do not have access to a computer, one is available for public use in the Building Department. To access the permitting system, click the link. After establishing your account, log onto the permitting system, fill out the proper permit and submit the form. Your permit will be assigned to the appropriate inspector(s) for review.
